Solace Pet Bereavement is a counselling and advisory service set up to support individuals and families who are suffering the loss of a pet through death or disappearance.
Animals have the capacity to love us unconditionally. Anyone who has loved an animal knows how unique this bond is. However, we unfortunately live in a society where there is a stigma attached to grieving for animals so when a person loses a pet they often hide the true extent of their grief for fear of being ridiculed. Feelings of sadness, anger and guilt are all perfectly normal and it is important to express these emotions to come to terms with the loss. It takes time to adjust to life without an animal companion that has been an intrinsic part of your day-to-day living.
If you are preparing for the difficult task of euthanasia or are finding it hard to come to terms with the loss of a pet then do not hesitate to contact us. We can offer you a sympathic ear to express your concerns with a person who fully understands and values the importance of human-animal companionship.
The death of her dog Toby, prompted Annie Kilmartin to set up this service.
“Toby was a cross-breed rescue dog. He was a great companion to me. I got him when I was in my 30’s and when he died I was in my 50’s. It was like the loss of a good auld pal.” - Faithful Departed (Irish Times) Read article
